Post 4: Why architecture?
I love studying architecture, but I really don’t know why I chose to study it. I’ve always liked a lot of things, looking to learn about a variety of topics. I was never 100% artist or 100% scientists, so I guess in this search to strike a balance between the two, it seemed to me that studying architecture could work. And so far, I’m happy and satisfied with my decision.
What has interested me the most, until now, is that architecture has direct effects on the territory and it is up to us as architects to create a healthy and friendly dialogue with the space we inhabit, since all those who produce things are responsible and we can all collaborate adapting to the changes that need to be implemented. Because, what is the objective of architecture but to configure habitats, both urban and rural, that work in solidarity with all its inhabitants?
As architects, our goal is to assume in the discipline the principles of sustainability, seeking complete harmony with the environment and including systemic approaches to provide for the management of resources, community participation and the adaptation of regulations that reinforce the measures of adaptability of the constructions to the physical-natural characteristics of the intervention areas. This implies redirecting human settlements planning and intervention strategies, with the premise of management; efficient use of natural capital; energy saving and equitable distribution of wealth.
